RICH GREENGOLD BIOGRAPHY


Grew up in Annapolis, MD playing cornet, sousaphone and alto saxophone in the public school system concert bands.

While attending a Louis Armstrong concert at the U.S. Naval Academy Field House at age 12, I “made my way” to the locker room during intermission for a hand shake and an autograph from “Satchmo”while he relaxed in his boxer shorts!

Began playing alto saxophone professionally at age 15 with a soul band, Bobby and the Martels and recorded at Edgewood Studios, Washington, DC 1964. Listen

Attended the University of Maryland receiving a BA in Personnel Management, Labor and Public Relations 1971.

Performed as the warm-up act for Roberta Flack at the University of Maryland Ritchie Coliseum 1972.

Worked as a social worker for the U.S. Dept. Housing & Urban Development, Washington, D.C. 1972-1976.

Performed at The One Step Down Lounge Sunday nights and recorded with that group, The John Guernsey Quartet, at Omega Studios
